Job Description

Purpose of Role

The Grounds Person position is responsible for providing a high quality gardening services which will include carrying out grounds maintenance in accordance with the day to day gardening schedules to ensure that the physical environment for residents is neat, comfortable, safe and hazard free.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide range of grounds maintenance and gardening tasks, including but not limited to:
    • Whipper snipping
    • Blowing down of surfaces
    • Cleaning synthetic grass surfaces
    • Mowing (hand and ride-on)
    • Pruning
    • Pressure cleaning
    • Cobweb removal
    • Solar panel cleaning
    • Gutter cleaning and irrigation repairs
    • General gardening (weeding, planting, mulching)
    • Lawn spraying (weed control and fertilising)
    • Rubbish and waste removal
    • Delivery and distribution of goods.

 

  • Perform cleaning of building facades, pressure washing, and maintenance of entertainment areas
  • Ensure timely and accurate communication, reporting, and documentation of gardening schedules
  • Prioritise workloads and respond effectively to gardening requests and changing conditions
  • Report any broken or damaged equipment promptly to ensure timely repairs
  • Promote and maintain residents’ self-esteem, dignity, integrity, safety, security, and comfort through respectful and professional conduct
  • Utilise the maintenance management system (currently FIX) to track, update, and close all assigned maintenance requests
  • Provide support to Maintenance staff during peak periods or staff absences, which may include:
    • Assisting with pool cleaning and maintenance
    • Drive the facility bus as required (subject to appropriate licensing).

Desired Skills and Experience

Qualifications & Training

 

  • Trades qualification and/or significant experience in performing maintenance tasks
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Current Police Check
  • Current Drivers Licence
  • Relevant Bus Licence (desirable)

 

Experience

 

  • Understanding of the Aged Care Sector, Retirement Living and Independent Living Sector
  • Extensive experience in a maintenance role of relevant field

 

Skills & Competencies

 

  • Demonstrated ability to work professionally and to operate independently; supervise other staff where necessary
  • Awareness of WHS requirements, manual handling and infection control
  • Demonstrated communication skills and Interpersonal skills
  • Able to work across all company sites
